About St. Catherine of Siena
St. Catherine of Siena is a Dominican parish and Newman Center entrusted with the Catholic mission at the University of Utah. Our life together is centered on worship, preaching, and the formation of students, while welcoming friends of St. Catherine’s who share in and support this mission.
Who We Are
St. Catherine of Siena is a Catholic parish entrusted to the Dominican Province of the Holy Name and established as the Newman Center for the University of Utah. The parish exists primarily to serve students, faculty, staff, and their families, while also welcoming friends of St. Catherine’s and others drawn to the Dominican charism who worship with the community.
Our common life is shaped by a shared rhythm of liturgical prayer, preaching, and sacramental life, lived in the Dominican tradition.
Our Mission
Our mission is to invite the university community into the life of faith through worship, preaching, and the sacramental life of the Church. Rooted in the Dominican tradition, St. Catherine’s exists to form students intellectually, spiritually, and communally, while welcoming all who share in and support this mission.
Dominican Life & Spirituality
The Dominican tradition shapes our common life through a commitment to liturgical prayer, the preaching of the Gospel, and the pursuit of truth in study. At St. Catherine’s, this means a serious sacramental life, thoughtful preaching, and an integration of faith and reason ordered toward the service of the Church and the university.
The University Mission
St. Catherine’s exists to serve the Catholic mission at the University of Utah. Students are the primary focus of our pastoral life, and the rhythms of worship, preaching, and formation are ordered toward their intellectual and spiritual formation. Faculty, staff, families, and friends of St. Catherine’s worship with the community in support of this mission, sharing in a common life centered on prayer and the sacraments.
